Frequently Asked Questions

Many of the supply lists ask for "No Wheel backpacks". Why?

It is simply a question of safety. The students will be using staircases every day. The backpacks with wheels are a serious safety concern because of tripping. There was a concern voiced about the weight of the backpacks with all the textbooks. Most of our textbooks (Social Studies, Science, and Math) are all available online. It is very rare that students will need to take home their textbooks. If they do, it is never required that they take home all of them on any given day.

What are the school’s hours?

We begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. on Wednesday). Our supervision will begin 30 minutes prior to the start of school and end 30 minutes after school is out.

When will I know my child’s teacher?

Class lists will be posted on the front windows of the school during Meet the Teacher in August. Check the calendar on the homepage for a specific date.

When is Meet the Teacher?

It will be during the week prior to the first day of school. Check our calendar on our website’s homepage for more details.

Will I have a chance to join PTO?

Yes. PTO will be having a membership drive during the beginning of the school year. For all info on PTO, please visit their site under the “Parents” link of our homepage.

What Special areas will be offered?

Physical Education, Music, and Art.

Will there be a Gifted program?

Yes. Wetherbee offers gifted services in gifted cluster classrooms.

Does the school have VPK (Voluntary Pre-K)?

Yes; however, it will be half day and the class fills up quickly. You may place your child’s name on a waiting list for possible future enrollment.

Where can I get a supply list?

They are posted on our website under the “Parents” section as well as on each grade level page under “Academics and Curriculum”.

Does the school have Safety Patrols?

Yes. Fifth-grade students will have an opportunity to apply to be a patrol member at the beginning of the school year.

Does the school have an ESE program?

Each school services their own Exceptional Education students (SLD, EMH, etc.), so we will serve our own students. For exceptionalities that require more support, there are central schools. Wetherbee will not be a central site.

How many students will be attending school?

Our current enrollment is around 1000 students.

What kind of technology does the school have?

Each classroom is equipped with 4 student computers, a Teacher computer, a video presenter, a document camera, an interactive whiteboard, and audio enhancement (for teachers to wear a microphone). The school also has a compute lab.  Wetherbee is a digital school, so every student is issued a digital device to use in the classroom.  Kindergarteners and first graders use iPads, and second through fifth grades use laptops.

Do the students have to wear uniforms?

Yes. The use of uniforms promotes a sense of discipline and brings us together as one team as we focus on academics. Students no longer feel pressured to conform to the fashion of their classmates. They can then focus on other means of expression and activities such as music, art, and sports. The sense of community also helps to promote school spirit.

Will the students be allowed to wear “any” type of sweater?

It is preferred that the students wear sweaters that are the color of the uniforms. However, there will be leniency to other colors for sweaters and jackets during cold weather season only and the clothing underneath the sweater must still be in uniform. We rely on the parents' good judgment to ensure that the sweater and anything on it is appropriate for school.

Is there sand on the playground?

No.

Will there be a National Honor Society?

Yes.

Will the students be able to use i-Ready?

Yes.

Does the school have security cameras?

Yes.
